Milum and Katy Perry met while riding a chairlift at Stevens Pass Ski Resort in 2001. They started planting Tildio’s vineyard in Lake Chelan in the spring of 2002. After three years of tending to vines together and getting married they embarked on building the winery at the vineyard site. Milum acted as the general contractor and most of the subs while Katy cheered him on. The Tasting room opened in April of 2005.
Katy comes from the Phinney Ridge neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. After living in Washington DC, studying Geology and interning at the Smithsonian Institute she decided to go back to school for Enology and Viticulture at UC Davis. That was in 1986 and she hasn’t looked back since. After working for such luminaries as Robert Mondavi, Stags Leap Wine Cellars, Daryl Groom at Geyser Peak Winery and Chateau Ste Michelle she felt ready to strike out on her own with Tildio Winery.
Milum is the son of an Army Engineer who took the family to wild places all over the world, including Germany, Greece and Thailand. After UC Santa Barbara and a degree in Economics, Milum focused on a life of outdoor adventure and competitive cycling and kayaking. A love of Amador Zinfandel (discovered during training rides through the Sierra foothills) is where Katy and he connected and the rest is history.
